Hotel Covo Dei Saraceni, Positano, Italy
Over an old fishermen's house that every so often became a haven for people from Positano - who made themselves up as Saracens to relive the legend of the predators' landing on Amalfi shores - was built the "Covo dei Saraceni" (Den of Saracens). On a marvellous rock spike there is the ideal refuge of those who land here and wish to immerse themselves in the splendid colors of the Amalfi Coast.
Located at one end of
Positano’s bay and next to the ferry pier, Covo dei Saraceni enjoys and enviable
position. The saltwater pool is one of the largest in the village, where
buildings cling like limpets to the hillside and space is at a premium, and the
adjoining terrace overlooks the busy beach.
The rooms at Covo dei Saraceni are large and fresh, with terraces or balconies
in most, sea views, white walls, iron bed heads from which hang padded cushions,
simple furnishings with one color as an accent, elegant reproductions and white
sofas and armchairs. A/C, tvs and minibars are standard. The bathrooms are also
white and fresh with colored pebble-style tiles introducing some variety, suites
also have Jacuzzis.
The lobby is gleamingly hotel-like although softened by the curving lines from
the wavelike ceiling to the reception desk. Covo dei Saraceni is more glitzy
than some other hotels in the area and has a slightly less personal feel,
despite the friendly and welcoming staff. The large restaurant has bougainvillea
vines growing across the ceiling and boasts great sea views - it is not possible
to be closer to the water without getting your feet wet.
Guests enjoy freshly baked pastries and a delicious buffet breakfast in the Bougainville Salon on Level 1, which looks out over the sea and across to the towns nestled against the steep cliffs. A special feature of this beautiful room is the indoor lilac bougainvillea that flowers in spring/summer. Hotel's restaurant is recognised for its quality and service. For a romantic dinner with an equally spectacular view of the gulf, Ristorante Savino on the ground floor offers seafood fresh from the sea, succulent handmade pasta dishes and delicacies made in the local traditions.
Located at the ground floor just before the entrance to hotel is the Bar Covo. Open from 8.00 am until 11.00 pm the Bar Covo serves wonderful gelati, panini, cakes, and other light snacks as well as a full bar service (wine spirits, and coffee/tea and softdrinks).
