 Blazing New Territory

SuperClubs Breezes Resort

The first Breezes Resort with Camp Breezes recently opened in Brazil's Costa do Sauipe

SuperClubs' new Breezes resort, which opened in Brazil on Sept. 30, 2000 represents a number of firsts. It's the first all-inclusive in Brazil, SuperClubs' first venture beyond the Caribbean and the first of a new SuperClubs brand, Breezes Resorts with Camp Breezes (its kids' and teens' clubs). Similar to the Breezes in Jamaica and the Bahamas, this resort property is mid-priced and offers sports-oriented activities. But while the other Breezes are for guests 16 and older, this resort caters to families with children of all ages.

The hotel is located in Costa do Sauipe, a new 500-acre resort complex on the northeastern coast of Bahia. When fully open, the complex will feature a Sofitel Suites and Resort, Sofitel Conventions hotel, Marriott Resort & Spa, Renaissance Resort, six pousadas (bed-and-breakfasts) and the Breezes. The total room count will be 1,650.

Breezes is the only hotel open at present, but the complex's tennis center, golf course, equestrian center and open-air shopping mall are up and running. Guests at Breezes have access to all the facilities in the complex.

Clientele

The new resort is a good choice for a wide range of guests, including families, honeymooners and water-sports enthusiasts. Children under 14 stay free.

Accommodations

Four four-story buildings house 308 deluxe and premium rooms, six one-bedroom suites, nine one-bedroom luxury suites and one presidential suite, for a total of 324 rooms. Premium and deluxe rooms overlook the garden or pool, while the suites offer ocean views. All rooms have balconies or patios. The rooms are air-conditioned, and amenities include ceiling fans, hair dryers, irons and ironing boards, safes, telephones, satellite TV, CD players and minibars.

Public Areas

Each of the property's buildings has one side that faces the pool and adjacent beach, giving the entire hotel an airy, tropical feel. In addition to the clubs for teens and younger children, facilities include a fitness center, three tennis courts, hot tub, disco, gaming room, gift shop and meeting space that can accommodate up to 400 people. Circus clinics take place on the lawn area near the pool, where a trapeze and trampoline are set up. In addition, guests have access to the rest of the Costa do Sauipe complex, with its shops, restaurants, bars and sports facilities.

Dining

With five restaurants, seven bars and a cafe, dining at Breezes is serious business. The property's restaurants include Jimmy's Buffet, which caters to almost any food fancy and sometimes features live entertainment; Munahana, serving Japanese cuisine; Pastafari, which offers Italian fare; The Marketplace, for international meals; and Tropical Grill, which specializes in Caribbean and Bahian dishes. Fresh seafood is found in all of the restaurants, and self-serve ice cream is available throughout the day in the buffet and grill. The abundance of bars scattered around the property, including the pool's swim-up bar, lobby bar and a piano bar fully equipped with a karaoke machine, ensure that cold drinks are always readily at hand. All liquors, including premium brands, are covered under the all-inclusive price of the stay. Guests should be sure to try a caipirinha, a famed Brazilian cocktail, available at all the bars and restaurants on the property. The cafe, which is adjacent to the lobby, is a self-s erve venue and offers late afternoon tea and cookies.

Service

The service is extremely friendly and helpful, and staff members are willing to do whatever they can to accommodate guests.

Could Be improved

Unfortunately, with the exception of the front desk, most of the staff does not speak English. As a result, communicating with them can become frustrating.

Strongest Selling Paint

The property's food is consistently excellent. Guests will find it difficult to choose which of the resort's restaurants in which to eat each meal.
