Morning drive through the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve
which contains countless species of birds, butterflies and wild animals.
The prehistoric metropolis of Calakmul was discovered and named by
botanist Cyrus Lundell in 1931. Calakmul dominated the so-called Kingdom
of the Serpent's Head (250-750 AD). This group skirmished constantly with
archrival Tikal. Overnight at a hotel in the jungle of Southern Campeche.

Citadel of Becan. The moat surrounding the city center is 52 feet wide and
16 feet deep and has been dated to the pre-classic period. Next stop is
the awe-inspiring citadel of Xpujil which depicts the Rio Bec
Architectonic Style. After lunch at the Calakmul restaurant the day's
adventure concludes at a hotel on the lovely Bacalar Lagoon.
