Autumn in New England & Quebec is a special time. The tapestry
of fall colors spreads throughout the countryside. On board
the American Orient Express, we will journey along
less-traveled routes through mountain passes, river valleys
and small towns. The cultural centers of Montreal and Quebec
City are rich in history dating back to the 1600s. Rail travel
through this region during the fall is breathtaking. The train
will take you off the beaten path through mountain ranges,
fertile agricultural valleys and expansive forests. Experience
a scene from yesterday as shopkeepers stop and wave as the
train passes by Main Street — blowing its whistle along the
way. |

Day 1 — Montreal, Quebec |
After independent arrivals at the
hotel, we meet for our private welcome reception and dinner.
We take this opportunity to introduce the train staff and
other guests who will join us on our journey. This evening, we
overnight at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth Hotel. (D) |

Day 2 — Montreal, Quebec / Board The
American Orient Express |

This
morning, we enjoy breakfast in the hotel before departing on
motorcoaches for a city tour of Montreal, visiting the city’s
old district, metropolitan downtown and the Notre Dame
Basilica. This afternoon, we continue to the station and board
the train. After getting settled, we enjoy dinner and over
night en route to Quebec City. (B,L,D)

Day 3 — Quebec
City, Quebec |

Arriving in Quebec City this
morning, we detrain and tour the old city. We journey
outside the old citadel to the Plains of Abraham. It is here
that the British defeated the French to determine which
European power would claim supremacy over colonial North
America. This afternoon, choose a tour of Montmorency Falls
and the surrounding fall colors or spend free-time exploring
the city. We return to the Old City Center for a tea social
at The Fairmont Chateau Frontenac. The balance of the
afternoon will be at leisure to visit the historic district
before boarding the train for dinner and overnight. (B,L,D)

Day 4 —
Saratoga Springs, New York |

| This
morning, awaken to the sounds of the railroad tracks as we
journey through some of the most scenic fall countryside en
route to upstate New York. After crossing the border into the
United States, we continue traversing the shores of Lake
Champlain before reaching Saratoga Springs. This afternoon we
visit the town of Saratoga Springs and the National Museum of
Racing and Hall of Fame. This evening, we enjoy dinner and
overnight on board the train stationed outside of Albany, New
York. (B,L,D) |

Day 5 — The
Berkshires, Massachusetts |

| This
morning, we have breakfast on board before boarding
motorcoaches for the Berkshires— the picturesque area made
famous in the numerous illustrations of artist Norman
Rockwell. We will visit the Norman Rockwell Museum as well as
Chesterwood, the home and studio of sculptor Daniel Chester
French. In the early afternoon, lunch is served at the
historic Cranwell Resort. Back on board this evening, we enjoy
dinner and overnight on board the train. (B,L,D) |

Day 6 — Green
Mountains, Vermont |

| Today
we spend the day on board the train traveling through
picturesque upstate New York and the Green Mountains of
Vermont. Enjoy the vast panorama of New England's fall foliage
from the dome car, attend on board lectures, and join fellow
travelers for an afternoon tea presented by our pastry chef.
This evening we arrive in the historic city of Montpelier,
Vermont. We have dinner and overnight on board. (B,L,D) |

Day 7 —
Burlington, Vermont |

Breakfast is served this morning on board the train before we
transfer by motorcoach to the picturesque town of Burlington,
nestled on the shores of Lake Champlain. This setting is ideal
for a fall foliage tour, with the lake to the west and the
Green Mountains covering the other three directions. This
afternoon, we visit Shelburne Farms for lunch and a private
tour. In the evening, we transfer back to the train for our
farewell cocktail reception, dinner and overnight en route to
our final destination — Montreal, Quebec. (B,L,D) |

Day 8 —
Montreal, Quebec |

After
we clear customs, we enjoy our final breakfast on the train
before pulling into Montreal’s central station. We are free to
explore the city on our own or make individual arrangements
for our flights home. (B)
