2. San Francisco / Wine Country
Enjoy a brief morning sightseeing tour of San Francisco before
traveling over the majestic Golden Gate Bridge and heading north to
the Sonoma Valley, a beautiful wine growing region that features some
of the world's finest vineyards. Visit a winery, do some tasting and
have a picnic lunch before returning to San Francisco mid-afternoon;

3. Gold Country / Yosemite
Journey today to Gold Country, home of California's "Mother Lode." See
"Gold Rush" communities as you
travel through the interior of California. After lunch in
historic Columbia,
travel into the Sierra Nevada Mountains to Yosemite National
Park; your home for the next two nights is a renowned

The entire day is at your leisure; explore the unequaled splendors of
glacier-hewn Yosemite National Park, where magnificent waterfalls and

5. Mariposa / Monterey
Journey to the small town of Mariposa, a mecca during the "Gold Rush"
era for people from around the world seeking their fortunes. You next
travel through the farmland of the San Joaquin Valley to Merced for
lunch, continuing on to the beautiful city of Monterey. Visit the
Monterey Bay Aquarium before arriving at your hotel for a two-night

6. Carmel / 17-Mile Drive
The Monterey Peninsula is an enclave of magnificent homes, lovely
beaches and the famous Pebble Beach golf course. Travel the "17-Mile
Drive" through Del Monte Forest to Cypress Point. Browse in
Carmel-by-the-Sea, a charming village noted for picturesque homes,
galleries and shops. The afternoon and evening are free in Monterey.

8. Santa Barbara / Los Angeles
Travel down the coast to Santa Barbara, which is silhouetted against
the Santa Ynez Mountains. See the Mediterranean architecture of the
old courthouse, a jewel in this delightful coastal city, and continue
to the glamorous, exciting city of Los Angeles. Visit the magnificent
J. Paul Getty Museum, featuring an extensive collection of pre-20th
century European art and sculpture, Greek and Roman antiquities,
decorative arts, and photographs by many of the world's

Journey south from Los Angeles to historic San Juan Capistrano; board
the Pacific Surfliner for a scenic rail journey along the
